DESCRIPTION
How many signals are we able to ignore when we are madly in love? Germany, 1990s. Asli and Saeed meet at a dorm party and fall in love at first sight. A brilliant science student and a charismatic, confident boy quickly get married despite Asli’s mother’s doubts. They promise each other eternal love and vow to never tell each other their secrets, and Saeed’s secret dream is to become a pilot. The boy disappears one day without explanation, and Asli’s world is turned upside down. Berrached has created a beautiful, emotional film about love, but also about culture clash, trust, entering adulthood, and matriarchy.
DIRECTOR
Anne Zohra Berrached (1982), German screenwriter and director. A graduate in psychology, she also studied directing at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy. Her sophomore film "Saint & Whore" (2012), has screened at over eighty film festivals around the world. Berracheds’ feature debut film, "Two Mothers" (2013), was made during her third year at university and had its world premiere at the 63rd Berlin IFF, distributed in five countries.
