DESCRIPTION
The end of World War II, the Polish province after the passage of the Red Army, marked by death and violence. The complicated relationship between Mathilde, a young French Red Cross doctor and atheist, and the Benedictine Sister Superior. Two strong women, navigated by different value and belief systems, must meet halfway to help nuns raped by the Red Army. Several of them are pregnant, struggling not only with trauma, fear of motherhood, but also fear of ostracism and the threat of closure of the monastery. Film critics emphasized the beautiful, painterly frames and excellent performance of Agata Kulesza and Agata Buzek.

Anne Fontaine (1959) French actress, director and screenwriter, one of the most important contemporary filmmakers. She debuted in 1993 with the film Les Histoires d'amour finissent mal. . . en général", for which she received the prestigious Jean Vigo Award. Four years later, her "Nettoyage à sec" won the award for screenplay at the Venice Film Festival. Fontaine's great international success was "Coco Chanel" with Audrey Tautou. In 2013, she made the controversial "Perfect Mothers" with Robin Wright and Naomi Watts. Anne Fontaine's trademark is genre cinema and daring moral dramas.
