The feelings they share, love and friendship, their dilemmas, hopes, successes and failures, we observe from the time they enter life to adulthood. The director tells a powerful story about where they come from, where they are going and what the future holds for their children. The cycle of life repeats regardless of political and social background with similar dynamics. In his latest film, Muccino puts a mirror in front of his Italian audience and encourages them to find the country’s recent history in the characters’ fates as well.

The film was obtained with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute.

An atmospheric animation in which the creator recalls his late parents, but also a pleiad of important characters from literature and cartoons. The oneiric world in which the protagonist immerses himself, a safe land of memories full of eternal youth, is a way to escape from the relentless time which takes his family members and friends one by one. The animation was created over many years and the voices were lent by leading Polish film and theatre artists.

YAG – The Movie https://www.dwabrzegi.pl/en/events/yag-the-movie/ Fri, 16 Jul 2021 18:28:36 +0000 https://www.dwabrzegi.pl/?post_type=cpt_events&p=38630 Batsheva Dance Company from Tel Aviv is a group recognized as one of the most interesting phenomena in contemporary dance theatre. Batsheva has achieved worldwide success working under the direction of renowned choreographer Ohad Naharin, creator of the Gaga movement language. Gaga teaches dancers to understand and listen to their own bodies, but also to co-exist and co-feel as a team. In Ohad Naharin’s “YAG”, Batsheva’s first production adapted especially for the screen, Naharin uses cinematic language to communicate his work both as director and choreographer. The disappearance of the stage, now replaced by the cinematic frame, creates a direct encounter with the dancers. Video artist Roee Shalti, who regularly films Batsheva, filmed and edited the piece with Naharin. The bare space, using the same lighting throughout, is the setting for refined movement. “YAG” by Ohad Naharin is performed by six Batsheva dancers from season 2020/2021: Yael Ben Ezer, Sean Howe, Londiwe Khoza, Igor Ptashenchuk, Yoni (Yonatan) Simon and Hani Sirkis.

It’s the 1980s, Jacob moves from the West Coast to a farm in Arkansas with his wife and two children. They live in a mobile home, pursuing Jacob’s dream of a thriving Asian vegetable farm. Jacob’s wife, Monica, on the one hand shows her husband support, on the other is full of anxiety and fear of bankruptcy. Additionally, a new person comes to the family, a grandmother from Korea, who does not fit the stereotypical image of a sweet grandmother baking cookies – she prefers to play cards with her grandchildren instead. The extremely encouraging story is told from the perspective of Jacob’s son, David, who is the director’s alter ego.
