An unconventional family saga that focuses not so much on the couple’s strong love, but on the lack of it. Rome and Naples. Two cities and two stages of Aldo and Vanda’s married life, the 1980s and modern times. A marriage after 12 years is on the verge of breaking up, Aldo is having a hot affair with a younger colleague at work. After another thirty years, we see them still together, albeit alone, connected by unseen bonds despite the burnout of their feelings. Wrong choices, hurtful comments lead to the conundrum that for Aldo and Vanda to continue to be together, they would have to be silent more often.

Despite the years that separate them, the somewhat naïve Suzanne is able to state her own boundaries. She has enough strength within her to bet on a relationship that makes her grow and to reject what might hold her back and overwhelm her.

Europe, World War II. Belgian Jew Gilles Cremieux is sent to a concentration camp. In order to survive the inevitable execution, he invents a fictional identity for himself – he pretends to be a highly wanted Persian. He doesn’t realize that camp cook Klaus Koch’s dream is to open a restaurant in Iran after the war. Koch wants Gilles to give him Farsi lessons. Instead, Gilles invents a whole new language, creating a dictionary based on the names of fellow inmates. The film portrays an exquisitely organized deadly system, but clearly names perpetrators and victims, contesting the narrative of “just following orders.”

For the first time since the post-war era, two artists – Roman Polański and Ryszard Horowitz – walk and talk on the streets of Cracow, the city of their childhood. Polański came to Cracow with his parents from Paris, Horowitz was born in Cracow. The creators are well established professionally, have achieved great artistic success in their lives, and are united by their passion. Walking around, they recall their early years, including the traumatic period during the war. They tell how they managed to survive World War II and almost certain death. Roman Polański was hidden by the Buchała family, Ryszard Horowitz as a small child was put on Schindler’s list.
