A story about the ethics behind choices of the scientists, ambiguity of progress and the non-neutrality of science. A film about the life of a Polish mathematician of Jewish origin, Stanisław Ulam, who emigrated to the USA before the outbreak of World War II and took up a job at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton at the invitation of the great Hungarian mathematician John von Neumann. When his contract is not renewed, Ulman and his younger brother face deportation to war-torn Europe and certain death. However, he is invited to join the Manhattan Project, a group of scientists working to develop an atomic bomb. Stanislaw Ulam’s research made it possible to construct a hydrogen bomb and accelerated the construction of the first computer.
