Bangarra Dance Theatre, as a newly born company, was taken on by three brothers more than thirty years ago. The artistic director is Stephen Page, the composer is David Page and the lead dancer is Russell Page. As Bangarra enters its fourth decade, it has the status of an ambassador of Australian culture, an award-winning modern dance company with sold-out shows, respected and admired around the world. It is based on a culture of Indigenous Australians that has lasted for 65,000 years. Despite the fame and honour its key creatives still struggle with rejection, grief, and a sense of loss. The combination of the two directors’ points of view, an Aboriginal man and a non-Indigenous woman, explores these questions about inter-generational suffering.
Nel Minchin is an Australian arts, entertainment and comedy producer and director. After graduating from the Broadcasting program at the WAAPA, Nel moved to London. She worked there on BAFTA nominated factual series "Blood, Sweat and Takeaways" for BBC3 and as Assistant Producer in the Google Creative Lab in 2010. In recent years she has turned to directing. Her debut arts documentary "Matilda and Me" (2016, on Tim Minchin and the musical that made him globally famous), co-directed with Rhian Skirving, received popular and critical acclaim. "Making Muriel" (2017) was released to high viewing figures. Both films were in the top 5 of most watched documentaries on Australian television, in two consecutive years.
