DESCRIPTION
Zhenya was born in Chernobyl. He works in a relatively affluent middle class neighborhood in a gated community. External luxury hides loneliness, boredom, and irritation, from which drugs are an escape. The immigrant wanders from door to door, massaging the battered bodies of residents of wealthy homes. His skills gradually extend beyond massage, Zhenya permeates their souls, becoming more and more desired and adored. Zhenya can be seen as the personification of self-renewing nature, a perpetum mobile, but is a human interference in the world too profound for it to be self-renewing?

DIRECTOR
Małgorzata Szumowska (1973) is a Polish director, screenwriter and producer, one of the most talented Polish filmmakers of the young generation. She has made several documentaries and well-received short films as well as many feature-length pictures. Małgorzata Szumowska has been honoured and awarded at numerous international and Polish film festivals. Her short film "Silence" was listed among the 14 best films in the history of the Łódź Film School, and the Sundance Institute Robert Redford recognized the screenplay for the feature film "Ono" as one of the three best texts from Europe.
